The world’s most influential wedding pros and influencers weigh in on the hottest upcoming wedding trends in the 2017 International Wedding Trend Report, released by The International Academy of Wedding and Event Planning.
This 122-page, free report takes a deep-dive into the newest and freshest details Millennial couples expect for their wedding days, including trends in decor, cakes, stationery, florals and more.
Here are a few of the top wedding trend predictions for 2017
Modern Industrial Florals
Floral trends continue to move toward more abundant looks, with lush greenery and bold blooms.
Popular television personality, designer and planner David Turtera notes that florals are going the “modern-industrial route.” Metallics, which have been trending for a couple of years, are getting a modern upgrade by being mixed with soft, creamy whites and ivories. Natural elements and geometric shapes finish the look.
Unexpected Natural Decor
Millennials are opting for a more unexpected and less “weddingy” feel with their decor. Natural details such as succulents, petrified wood and moss are taking center stage in wedding decor, rather than being relegated to the realm of accent or filler decor.
Jes Gordon of properFUN notes, “Couples want something that is warm and inviting, but also elegant and something that they want their guests to be organically impressed by. Our clients are enjoying rambling floral runners with lots of texture and varied views from all angles so each guest has a different take on the centerpiece. They want to achieve a perfect balance of joy across all five senses.”
Food and Catering
Tutera sees a shift away from food stations and toward “stylized tasting menus with tableside service.” He shares, “This let’s you keep the sophistication of your menu, while having a little twist on the traditional sit-down dinner, making it more unique and fun for your guests.”
Refined Wedding Cakes
Rustic cakes are on the decline. Couples are going for more opulent choices, including fairytale inspired cakes, botanical-inspired cakes, geode cakes, and marble cakes.
Elizabeth Cake Emporium notes, “Metallic colors are still huge but the golds and silvers are being replaced with shades of rose gold and copper. Metallics lend an air of glamour and decadence to a cake which some brides adore.”
Basically, Millennial couples expect their wedding cakes to be personalized, Instagrammable, memorable aesthetically and taste amazing.
